On November 3 the notes of “La Voce dei Sommersi” [“Voices of the Overwhelmed”] by Ennio Morricone, were heard in Lampedusa, as a tribute to the victims of the tragedy on last 3 October. The Maestro accepted Fabrica’s invitation and today, one month after that day, his tribute in music and voices was heard on the waters and under the sky of Lampedusa, in order not to lose the memory of those who lost their lives, but also of those who landed and those who live on the island.
The “Voce dei sommersi”, kindly given by Arnoldo Mosca Mondadori, was composed by Ennio Morricone and donated to the Fondazione Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti as part of the initiative in memory of victims of the tragedy off Lampedusa.
The WAR-TOYS project seeks to explore war from the perspective of children living in its day-to-day reality. Because cognitive ability is often ahead of language development, children typically share their experiences and cope with associated feelings through indirect methods of communication, such as art and play. As a result, their personal accounts of war often go unseen, even when studying its affects. Through WAR-TOYS, I use a collaborative process to unlock and articulate children’s experiences, turning the language of play into serious dialog.
